Review: W Retreat Koh Samui

  • 21 November 2013 |

The last hotel we visit at Koh Samui could be the most spectacular of the island: W Retreat Koh Samui. The W hotels all over the world tend to deliver the ‘wow’ factor, and we’re about to find out if that’s the case in this Thai hotel.

W hotel lays a bit on a remote location on the island. We first stayed at Hansar Samui, which is located in Boput. Then we moved to Librart hotel which is in the heart of Chaweng Road and know we’re back to where we started: Boput. Well, somewhere around that area.

When we arrive at the hotel we’re immediately confronted with the ‘wow’ factor they want to give you so badly. You enter through some kind of hallway with all these different lights and after this you enter the lobby which has the beneath view…

Yes. We’re a bit flabbergasted right now. That view just took our breath away. We are greeted by a woman at the reception but we’re not really focused. We’re still enjoying the view. After a few minutes we come to our senses and receive the hotel tour. This takes a while because the property is huge!

The hotel is build against a mountain. This way alsmost every hotel room has a view of the ocean which is of course pretty freakin’ cool. We’re not staying at one of the hotel rooms. We’re staying in one of the bungalows right next to the beach!

The place/house we stay in is amazing. We have our own pool, our own driveway… Our own everything. This is something everyone dreams about on vacation. The beach is 20 metres away and once we get there we get spoiled like never before. Special beds are made, in the sun or in the shadow. Whatever we like. There’s water, snacks and we have some sort of waitor who takes care of everything.

In the evening we are invited to have dinner at Nomu, the key restaurant of W Hotel Koh Samui. It’s kind of a small restaurant which surprises us because the resort itself is huge. A special menu is set for us so we taste a few of the restaurant specials. Before we arrive we heard that the lobster stir-fried udon noodles are simply amazing and we can only say, after tasting it of course, that this is a dish we would drive 100 km for. Really, really, special.

We stayed 2 nights at W hotel Koh Samui and will remember our visit for the rest of our lives. It just doesn’t get any more special… If you’re ever around, do yourself a huge favor and swing by. Seriously.
