Review: Segara Village Hotel Sanur Bali
Our first steps in Sanur. When we visited Bali three years ago we thought about visiting Sanur but we got stuck in other places. So we left a little bit bummed because we heard that Sanur was a great place to be. Now, when we revisit Bali, we finally get the chance to actually find out if all the stories were correct. The first place we stay at is called Segara Village Hotel and it’s located literally at the beach of Sanur.
When you enter the resort you immediately notice a few things. 1: the space. The ground is very big and open. 2: art. There’s art everywhere. We’re told the owners collect art from all over the world and stash it at this very cool looking resort. 3: Green. Bali is green. Ubud is greener. But Segara Village Hotel might even be just as green. There’s a lot of grounds people working to keep it that way, and that’s kind of a good thing we guess because that means of lot of people have a job at this place.

Checkin goes very subtle. Our bungalow room isn’t ready but we can have lunch at their Birdhouse Beach Club and enjoy a lovely spa session in the mean time. That’s of course a great way to wait for your room so we immediately head over to the beach club. Here we eat multiple times and the food sometimes is great and sometimes a bit disappointing. Also the staff could do a bit better. It seems they could put up their Bali smile a bit more. So about the food; the crepes are more like pancakes, they’re nearly not thin enough to be called crepes. The Nachos are really nice, the rubber ducky mocktail in the coconut is very nice. The spring rolls are decent but we expected at least one home made sauce and not 2 straight from a bottle. The Wagyu beef is excellent but the pasta agli olio lacks spice. So, our verdict about the food is that there’s some stuff going pretty well while other dishes need some work. Maybe some love? #balismile
After a lovely spa session (so lovely we book a second one on the spot) it’s time to check out the room. We’re somewhere in the back of the resort which we think is positive because it’s a bit bigger than we’re used to and we don’t really like these human rural places… Our bungalow is on the ground floor and it’s actually quite small. Not so small that it hurts so to speak, but it is small. Don’t get me wrong, we like it, and it has everything we need. We don’t want to sound cocky or anything, but it’s relatively small if you compare it to other places we’ve visited in Bali.

So the design of the place is small but nice. We’ve seen a lot of typical Bali places and it’s nice to have something different. It’s actually pretty Western. But we don’t mind because the rest of the premises is extremely Balinese so you get kind of good mix to it.
As I’ve mentioned before it’s a bigger resort. And that means crowded swimming pools and a lot of people claiming the best pool spots before they even had breakfast. We know how it works. We know it happens. And we understand there’e probably not that much the hotel can do to stop this kind of behaviour, but it does get under your skin every now and then.

Fun thing about Segara is the fact that they also have a more private area. These villas are of course a bit more expensive and have their own staff. So for people like us that would be a good solution.
I think we pretty much covered all there is to say about Segara Village Hotel. In a few days we’re going to sleep at their big brother Kejora Suites. This is probably a bit more like us but we still think there’s nothing wrong with Segara Village Hotel. It’s a decent place that will appeal to a lot of people that come to Bali. That’s probably why they have such high occupancy.
