Review: Hotel Britannique Paris

  • 21 August 2011 |

Before we planned a trip to Paris, we contacted a couple of hotels to see if they wanted to host us. Hotel Britannique was very interested!

Hotel Britannique is situated at the River the Seine in the district Beauborg. The manager of the hotel was very pleased to offer us a stay in Britannique and he even wanted us to have dinner in his restaurant. Something were you don´t say no to. We decided to take the TGV train to Paris. This way we could enjoy the nice trip from Amsterdam to Paris. The TGV dropped us at Gare Du Nord in Paris. From here we took the tram. It was a trip of about 20 minutes and it dropped us right in front of the hotel.

The hotel is situated in the centre of the city. It´s a three star hotel. It´s not very high class, but that´s not where our priorities are for the first night. The target group of Few is not only the business class people but also people who want to enjoy the city with a low budget. For these people Britannique is a very good choice. The staff welcomes you with a friendly smile and the first thing you notice when you enter the hotel is the interior. A lot of kitsch furniture, what is typical French. It´s up to you if you like it or not. We, Few reporters, liked it. It has a classical and warm ambiance and it makes us feel at home in the city of romance.

Our room has everything we look for in a hotel room and that for a room not bigger than 15 square meters. But the bathroom is very big and clean without a bath, but the manager told us that most of the rooms have a nice bath. There is also enough space to put your clothes and suitcases away. And why should you need a big room if you are in a city where you can explore so much.

Further on there was a very nice lounge with a computer you could use free of charge. The breakfast room was a little bit different from the rest of the hotel. When we woke up the next day and we entered the breakfast room we thought we were transported from France to Austria. Everything was made out of wood. We were expecting to get a schnitzel for breakfast. Luckely that wasn´t the case. They had delicious chocolate buns and typical French croissants.

Britannique is a typical hotel ‘What you see is what you get’ . We recommend this hotel to people who are looking for affordable and nice hotel in the heart of the city. A place where you can relax after a day shopping or sightseeing. A perfect place for a nice city trip to Paris.

Price: around € 200,- a night

The Thalys was kind enough to bring us to Paris. And back to Utrecht. The train leaves from Rotterdam or Amsterdam. It only takes you like 35 pages of your favorite book and you’re standing in de middle of the City of Light. It goes so fast you it’s kind of an culture shock when you get out at Gare du Nord. We travelled first class with free WiFi for less than 200 euros per person.
